This well shot and acted cop thriller drama romance from 1951 was an effective blast from the past, but archaic and melodramatic.
This gorgeously shot character drama, while ostensibly about 1920s race relations, has other, deeper focuses that end up using the race questions as a backdrop - and though by the end the whole movie’s various themes don’t quite gel together as well as they could, I must applaud the attempt for its originality and verve.
