Nicholas Cage has never worked for me, even though some of my favorite directors seem to love him (eg brothers Coen, Herzog) - his acting just falls flat for me, tho I definitely see a similarity with Klaus Kinski so I can see why Herzog liked him here - but the cop + robber shenanigans in this movie definitely scratch a solid itch, with a complex lead, stylish energy, and some well-earned hilarious moments.
This historical treatise has a lot of notoriety but I found it unnecessarily dense, and ultimately flawed, in that its focus on states and state power ignores a related discussion of capitalist power, such that altho there is a useful perspective to glean here about how a drive for social legibility can transform a society, I wouldn't recommend the book overall.
