For some reason they tried to make a movie out of a very good, extremely complex political thriller novel, and while the book is better plotted, more interesting, and more coherent, the movie does great at cultivating an increasing sense of drama and paranoia as it progresses, and it is a very affecting ride.

This historical treatise has a lot of notoriety but I found it unnecessarily dense, and ultimately flawed, in that its focus on states and state power ignores a related discussion of capitalist power, such that altho there is a useful perspective to glean here about how a drive for social legibility can transform a society, I wouldn't recommend the book overall.

Beyond Command and Control by John Seddon

This fairly recent manifesto is the most leftist business book I’ve ever read - and it has really changed my perspective on how humans organize themselves, so I have to give it a hearty recommendation for anyone who likes this kind of nonfiction, altho it is wordier and more repetitive than it needs to be.
