Nathan Lowell's Golden Age of the Golden Clipper series

This seven book sci-fi spacey redo of the Horatio Hornblower series was reactionary, predictable, silly, and kind of preachy - and yet for some reason I couldn't put it down and finished the whole thing in 2 weeks.
